וְהַמֶּ֤לֶךְ דָּוִד֙ זָקֵ֔ן בָּ֖א בַּיָּמִ֑ים וַיְכַסֻּ֙הוּ֙ בַּבְּגָדִ֔ים וְלֹ֥א יִחַ֖ם לֽוֹ׃
און דער מלך דוד איז געװאָרן אַלט און באַטאָגט, און מע האָט אים צוגעדעקט מיט קלײדער, אָבער אים פֿלעגט ניט װאַרעם װערן.

"Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily" (ibid. 5:5). R. Jose b. R. Hannina said : Whoever deals contemptuously with garments will in the end derive no benefit from them ; as it is said, "Now King David was old and stricken in years ; and they covered him with clothes but he could get no heat" (I Kings i. 1).
